How We Ensure Consistent Quality of MDI-Based Polyurethane Products in Humid Weather

2025-07-02

Lately, our factory has been facing extremely hot and humid weather, with relative humidity often exceeding 70%. This creates a real challenge for producing MDI-based polyurethane products.

As many in the industry know, MDI is highly sensitive to moisture. When water reacts with isocyanate groups, it generates CO₂ bubbles inside the product, leading to surface defects, reduced strength, and compromised performance stability.

To maintain consistent product quality despite the harsh weather, our team has implemented the following measures:

🔹 Raw Material Sealing & Pre-Drying: All polyols and additives are pre-dried and tightly sealed before use to avoid moisture contamination.
🔹 Mold Dehumidification: Molds are preheated and carefully dried to eliminate any condensation that could affect product quality.
🔹 Controlled Production Environment: Where possible, we keep key production areas below 65% relative humidity.
🔹 Process Optimization: We fine-tune reaction time, mixing speed, and other parameters to reduce the impact of ambient humidity.
🔹 Enhanced Quality Checks: Every batch is tested for appearance, hardness, dimensions, and bonding strength to ensure no detail is overlooked.

Weather can be unpredictable—but with the right preparation, consistent quality is always achievable.

We’d love to hear how others in the polyurethane industry are handling similar weather-related challenges. Let’s connect!
